How To
Give A Spa Pedicure In Your Home
By Dr. Jean Archer
Pedicures can be a relaxing spa treatment. Combine this experience with the
right environment, scented candles, and music; you have a true spa
experience. This can be created in the comfort of your own home. You can
pamper your loved one with this gesture, a great way to show you care.
Perfect Pedicure
Start off by
trimming excess nails straight across and file nails to smooth edges.
Be careful not to cut nails too short, as this may cause ingrown toenails.
Also make sure you use your own pedicure equipment as to prevent exposure to
fungus. Use an emery board to file and smooth nails to remove jagged or
sharp edges.
Next, soak feet
in a basin of warm water for 15-20 minutes. You may add your favorite foot
soaks if you like. Epsom salt works well. Add 1-2 Tsp. to 1 quart of water.
Apply and
massage cuticle oil into the cuticle region. Using an orange stick gently
push pack cuticles. I would not advise removing cuticles. The cuticle serves
as a barrier or a protection against outside bacteria.
A foot scrub
may be used to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells and calluses.
Foot scrubs are best used with a pumice stone. Pumice stones may be found in
your local drugstore or beauty supply store.
Rinse feet off
and dry thoroughly.
Apply a
moisturizer to feet and legs and massage gently. Hot stones are an effective
way of achieving relaxation. There are Hot Stone Massage kits available.
To top off your
perfect pedicure, you may use a coat of polish or just go natural.
When using nail polish, make sure nails are free of oil or moisture. Use
nail polish remover or an astringent to remove traces of oils or lotion from
the nail. Next, use a base coat, your favorite nail color and then top off
with a top coat. Allow nails to dry thoroughly.
So if you’re looking to give that perfect pedicure, rest assured with these
tips your well on your way.
